The Compass and the Riddle

By The Order of the Unseen Way

Some pathfinders, new to the road, found the Order asked only two things of them: witness a wonder, or walk a way. So the quest-giver has learned two new kinds of trial — one for the feet, one for the mind.

New in this patch

  • Directional Treks — a walk now has a bearing. Carry the Order’s sight fifty paces to the north-east. Your compass keeps you true; only the steps you take on course are counted. A familiar walk, made purposeful.
  • Riddles of the Order — the quest-giver will sometimes pose a question in place of a task. Answer well and the riddle yields; answer poorly and the Order bids you wait a moment before you try again. A trial you can meet on a rainy day, without ever leaving your chair.

Beneath the surface

The riddle’s answer is kept by the Order, never handed to you — no peeking at the parchment. And a directional trek only ever asks of you what a plain walk would; the heading is intent, not distance.

Two new roads for the newly-sworn, and more variety on every one. Keep an eye on the Tidings.

Walk well, pathfinder.
